Well the lads had a fine time in Norfolk. Hell of a drive, but well worth it for the groovy venue and highly enthusiastic new fans. Thank you Dereham Blues Festival. And now on to Worcestershire, where Beth will be joining us at the Upton Blues Festival, scene of so many past triumphs. We're on at The Swan at 12 noon on Sunday 17th July. The sun is due to shine, the river will be sparkling just in front of us, and a mighty fine time will be had by all. Do come. http://uptonbluesfestival.org.uk/
The WapWaps are off to Dereham in Norfolk this week for the annual blues festival. We'll be performing at the railway station at 9 p.m. on Friday 8 July. Here's a song that mentions a train to celebrate soundcloud.com/chicken-shed-records/train-fare-home
Very cool gig at the Zephyr Lounge last night. Only three of us in our low-fi line up, and only half an hour to play, but seemed to win a room full of new fans, so aren't we great. CW Stoneking was definitely worth watching too, and turned out to be a friendly if utterly incomprehensible guy. Extraordinary plans now being laid for the WapWaps for the rest of the year, so stay tuned gang....
A scaled-down, low-fi but fruity WapWaps will be supporting C.W. Stoneking at the Zephyr Lounge this Sunday 19th June. I know, it's great. We'll be on about 8.15. I think cheap tickets can be wangled if you get in touch.
Just a brill gig down the old Town House on Saturday. Thanks to all who came. Hope to get back there while the summer is still here, but other than that it's just a few groovy festivals for us over the next few months (see the Live page for details), plus a profoundly exiting recording project. Of which more news as and when. We've been getting quite a bit of radio play on the local BBC Introducing programme, which is nice, though I'm not sure anyone actually listens to that show. Do you? Still, last week they played "Coming Home" as the last song, which was immediately followed by "Make me Smile (Come up and see me)" , which gave me a small but significant tingle.
Local band "The WapWaps" will be selling themselves cheap at the Townhouse pub in George Street this Saturday (21 May). Unfortunately all they have to offer you is nailed-on superb original classics. Just for kicks we may even start at 8.50 p.m. this time.
The WapWaps are building up a mighty summer tour, with festival and other appearances so far confirmed in Norfolk, Upton, Leamington, Ledbury and New Orleans. See the "Live" section of the website for details. I may just have dreamt the bit about New Orleans, but check the website to make sure.
Unless of course you were at Wildes last night. Thanks to all who came and supported the bands and the MS Society. The WapWaps are going to have a little snooze now, but will be back on 21 May at the Townhouse. In the meantime, Tomo and James will be playing a blues-heavy acoustic set at the Parish Church in Leamington on 15 April as a warm up for the screening (by Leamington Underground Cinema) of "The Blues Brothers". A majestic religious building, the devil's music and a subterranean cinema collective. Promises to be a fun evening all round. Tickets from the church or from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/354252
Very nice time playing at the Gallery in Kenilworth last night. Groovy little place should you be in the vicinity: music on Fridays, charmingness and booze on other nights. And now for Wildes - the WapWaps plus other top Leamington popstrels will be entertaining from 7 on (Easter) Sunday. Doors open at 6. £5 on the door or in advance from Wildes if you go there now (Saturday). Proceeds to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. What better way to celebrate ancient resurrections and modern clocks going forward?* Sequence will be String then Pips then Rosenbergs then the mighty five-piece WapWaps.
*None Items requiring your close attention:
Fri 25 March: AcousitWapWaps at The Gallery in Kenilworth. Tomo, Beth, James and possibly Dave do low-fi versions of WapWaps classics and others. Sunday 27 March: Full-size, 5-piece WapWaps play their top hits at Wildes, Leamington as part of the MS Society benefit gig. Pips, String, Rosenbergs also appearing.... String, a strange new band involving James + Pip and Flo of the Rosenberg Appeal, also happen to be appearing at the Stratford Picture House on Sunday night (20 March). |
